Last year, we had a huge success with our outdoor kennel match
program. We more than doubled our initial goal of 20 outdoor kennels! They have been a
great benefit to the shelter dogs. The Altus Animal Shelter is excited to announce two new
donation match programs! For every $1 raised for either program the City of Altus will
match $1.
The first donation match program is for six new kennels for our puppy room. These newer
kennels will provide a more sanitary environment with true separation between puppies.
In addition, each kennel has its own drain system. The goal for the puppy room match
program is to raise $3,750 with City of Altus matching $3,750.
The second donation match program is for eight new cat condos in the cat adoption room.
These newer kennels allow more room and movement for the cats within their kennel. This
will reduce their stress and increase their well-being while at the shelter. The goal for the
cat adoption match program is to raise $3,000 with City of Altus matching $3,000.
For both programs, donations will be accepted at the City Clerk/Treasurer’s office at City
Hall, located at 509 S. Main. It is open Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm and donations are
tax deductible. Those donating will be honored at a City Council meeting after the project
has been completed.
Krissy Mayhew, Animal Control Supervisor, stated, “I am thrilled with these two new
opportunities for the public to show their support to Altus dogs and cats. The new kennels
will benefit shelter puppies and cats significantly so we can help them find a loving new
home.”
